Moreno Valley Business Laundry to Landscaping Wins Top Prize at the SoCal OASIS Pitch Challenge

Laundry to Landscaping, an innovative new business based in Moreno Valley, was recently awarded the $40,000 grand prize at the University of California Riverside (UCR) OASIS Challenge Pitch Competition on Thursday, December 7.
Laundry to Landscaping, owned by father-daughter duo Andrea and Miguel Cuellar, specializes in building custom systems that convert laundry graywater to irrigate landscaping and yards. The startup began at the Moreno Valley Business and Employment Resource Center (BERC), where Miguel participated in small business workshops and worked with a small business consultant earlier this year.
“It’s exciting to see forward-thinking, environmentally conscious innovation happening right here in our city,” said Moreno Valley Mayor Ulises Cabrera. “And it’s even more inspiring when that small business also happens to be family-owned and operated. I want to congratulate Laundry to Landscaping on this incredible honor and wish them nothing but the best as they continue to grow their business.”
Based on Laundry to Landscaping’s environmentally focused efforts, Andrea and Miguel were strongly encouraged by BERC staff to enter the competition, intending to secure seed funding for the business.
“We wanted to express our deepest gratitude for the tremendous support we have received from the City of Moreno Valley,” said Andrea Cuellar, Co-founder of Laundry to Landscaping. “Without the city’s program and dedicated staff, we wouldn’t have been able to make this a reality. The BERC was crucial in connecting us with resources that propelled our journey from concept to victory.”
The SoCal OASIS Challenge Pitch Finals showcased six promising startups competing for $100,000 in grants and specialized mentorship from UCR EPIC Small Business Development Center (EPIC SBDC) for product and market development. The program is part of the OASIS (Opportunities to Advance Sustainability Social Inclusion and Innovation) initiative led by UCR. It is dedicated to supporting the growth of inclusive economic development in Inland Southern California.
The six competition finalists represented various sectors, including agriculture technology, sustainable housing, sustainable transportation, and electronic recycling. They were selected as the most promising from a group of fourteen semifinalists who participated in a three-week boot camp delivered by EPIC SBDC mentors.
The Moreno Valley Business & Employment Resource Center connects small businesses and entrepreneurs to resources that empower them to thrive in Moreno Valley. By offering workshops, consulting services, and access to university programs at California Baptist University and UC Riverside’s EPIC program for Entrepreneurs, the BERC plays a pivotal role in fostering entrepreneurial success.

Laundry to Landscaping, una nueva e innovadora empresa con sede en Moreno Valley, recibió recientemente el gran premio de $40,000 en la Competencia de Pitch OASIS Challenge de la Universidad de California Riverside (UCR) el jueves 7 de diciembre.
Laundry to Landscaping, propiedad del dúo de padre e hija Andrea y Miguel Cuellar, se especializa en la construcción de sistemas personalizados que convierten las aguas grises de la lavandería para regar jardines. La emprendedora comenzó en el Centro de Recursos de Negocios y Empleo de Moreno Valley (BERC), donde Miguel participó en talleres de pequeñas empresas y trabajó con una consultora de pequeñas empresas a principios de este año.

Fueron seleccionados como los más prometedores de un grupo de catorce semifinalistas que participaron en un campamento de entrenamiento de tres semanas impartido por mentores de EPIC SBDC.
