in Tribute
to Late NBA Star and Daughter
For immediate release: February 21, 2020
Moreno Valley's iconic "M" on Box Springs Mountain will be lighted in purple and gold on the evening of Monday, Feb. 24, in honor of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, who, along with seven others, lost their lives in a helicopter crash last month. Feb. 24 will see a public memorial event earlier in the day at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
"We light the M for many public recognitions," explained Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley. "On Feb. 24, our City will light the M as part of the celebration of Kobe Bryant's life and that of his daughter. It's a small token of our community's deep affection for one of basketball's greatest players who became a beloved member of the Southern California community."
The City lights the M in various colors almost nightly in recognition of causes and people especially important to the community.
