News Release

Moreno Valley Seeks Help Identifying Suspects in Park Assault

For immediate release: July 22,2019

As a disturbing video of an assault committed in broad daylight circulates on social media, officials from the City of Moreno Valley are urging residents who witness crime to first call police.

The incident that was recorded and posted to various social media appears to have taken place at Community Park over the past weekend. Two young males are seen being physically attacked by several others, while still others look on.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, which provides police service to Moreno Valley, is actively investigating the matter. The City’s state-of-the-art public safety camera system, with more than 400 cameras, has helped police quickly resolve high-profile situations since its installation in 2013.

"This type of behavior has no place in our City," said Mayor Yxstian A. Gutierrez. "We take great pride in our parks as safe places for our community to play and relax. To keep them safe, we ask residents to say something if they see something."

"Our 38 parks are monitored by park rangers and police on a regular basis," said City Manager Tom DeSantis. "But, of course, they can't be everywhere all the time. We rely on members of the community to report any criminal activity directly to police rather than simply posting the incident to social media."
