The City of Moreno Valley’s annual Independence Day celebrations will combine again this year to create a full, fun, family-friendly day of patriotism and national pride. This year’s theme is “Stars, Stripes and Fireworks.”

Festivities kick-off at 9:30 a.m. with Moreno Valley’s well-known community parade, which will march its way north on Frederick St. from Alessandro Blvd. and then west on TownGate Blvd., ending at TownGate Plaza by 12:30 p.m. So bring a chair or blanket, find a comfortable location and enjoy the spectacle! And that’s just the start of this fun-filled day.

The celebration will continue at the ever-popular FunFest at Morrison Park and Mountain View Middle School at the northeast corner of Dracaea Ave. and Morrison St. Gates open at 2 p.m. with festivities including the national anthem and presentation of the colors; all kinds of tasty treats from a variety of food vendors; a Beer Garden; Youth Fun Zone with games, crafts and inflatables; many community organization booths and, as always, a great lineup of bands. This year’s performers include “The Jackstones” at 4 p.m.; “Latin Nation” at 5:15 p.m.; and “Pop Vinyl” at 7 p.m.

And what Independence Day would be complete without a fantastic fireworks show? Moreno Valley’s show is always one of the very biggest and best in the Inland Empire. This year’s fireworks extravaganza will launch at 9 p.m. and feature a musical accompaniment on KOLA 99.9 FM.

Discounted tickets for FunFest are available at the Moreno Valley Conference & Recreation Center through July 1. Cost is $2 per person, or just $10 for a family of up to six. On July 4, entry to FunFest is free from 2 - 4 p.m. After 4 p.m., the entry fee is $3 per person. Military service members with ID and all children age 5 and under get in free! Entry to the Youth Fun Zone is $8 per youth. Cash is highly recommended for FunFest as many vendors accept cash only.
